MISSION 1
The mission of the Atlantic Council of Montenegro (ACM) is to strengthen democracy, security and stability in Montenegro and the region through the organization and coordination of scientific-research activities in the field of defence, security and diplomacy. The ACM is the leading platform in Montenegro and the region, which, through its projects and analyses of political processes, enables further dialogue and discussions on the key international questions, processes and changes in the Trans-Atlantic region and SEE.
GOALS
- Contributing to the peace and security and emphasizing role and importance of NATO in the SEE region;
- Improving regional cooperation;
- Analyzing political processes and contributing to policy making;
- Emphasizing the importance and the role of Montenegro as a NATO member in the international processes;
- Implementing educational and exchange programs for the young with a view to training future generations of young leaders to develop effective policies.
The Atlantic Council of Montenegro was founded in 2006 and since then, it has been the prominent institution devoted to promotion of the Euro-Atlantic values and international security. The Atlantic Council joined the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) at the General Assembly held in Athens in 2006. Since we are facing a turning point in our history, the Atlantic Council has become a renowned platform for navigating effective shifts in political and security-related scene. The Atlantic Council promotes constructive leadership and engagement in the international affairs of significance based on the central and substantial role of the Atlantic community in meeting the international challenges of the 21st century. The Atlantic Council stimulates dialogue and discussion about critical international issues with a view to enriching public debate and promoting consensus on appropriate responses of not only the Government, the corporate and non-profit sectors, and the media in Montenegro, but also among leaders in Europe and the USA. At the same time, important contributions by the Atlantic Council include identifying and shaping responses to major issues that NATO and Trans-Atlantic community are facing. The Atlantic Council implements its activities through three of its centers: Digital Forensic Center, Center for Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism and Center for International Relations.
Globalisation and growing use of new technologies, along with the increased accessibility of the Internet have contributed to the importance of information, as well as the speed of their spreading and the manner in which they influence and shape political and socio-economic environment.
Digital Forensic Center is the first digital hub of its kind in Western Balkan region devoted to countering disinformation, fake news, and propaganda campaigns that have had a goal of destabilizing democratic processes in both Montenegro and Western Balkan region. The mission of Digital Forensic Center is to supress issues of disinformation and fake news through investigating a content of headlines and articles, and providing verified information based on a thorough analysis; promoting impartial truth and critical thinking; strengthening digital and media literacy through organizing seminars, workshops and lectures aimed at raising awareness on this issue. The Digital Forensic Center operates through multisector and multidisciplinary approach encompassing various aspects and gathering society institutions as well as branches of business in order to combat such a complex security challenge.
DFC uses, as a significant resource, an already established network of associates and non-government organizations from the Western Balkans region, Europe and the USA, as well as foreign experts and long-term cooperation with the US Atlantic Council and Institute for Statecraft from London.

CENTER FOR COUNTERING TERRORISM AND VIOLENT EXTREMISM
Violent conflicts and radical, extremist and terrorist movements are considered the global challenges to peace and security. The Western Balkans is not spared of these challenges. Center for Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism provides multidisciplinary guidelines, as well as practical support regarding the rule of law and prevention of terrorism, two crucial pillars of the efficient fight against terrorism. The focus of research is monitoring and indicating tendencies of both terrorism and public discourse direction.
Furthermore, the Center focuses on topics tackling countering violent extremism and work of the criminal justice, as well as aspects of countering terrorism in relation to the human rights. The key areas of the Center’s work refer to countering violent extremism, rule of law, foreign fighters, national and regional analyses, citizens’ obligations, victims’ statements etc. The Center is also devoted to researches, studies and analysis of what lies behind the radicalization of individuals, changes in methods and techniques, goals and logic of extremist and terrorist organizations, as well as the analysis and contributions to the more efficient implementation of politics and strategies in countering terrorism and violent extremism.
The Center deals with wide and various network of the international organizations, government sectors, non-government organizations, academic institutions, think tanks and civil society organisations from around the world.
CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
The Center for International Relations focuses on the activities directed to promoting and strengthening cooperation, as well as instigating a dialogue in the field of international relations among non-government organizations, prominent individuals from the public life, regional leaders, government organizations and countries within the international community, other scientific institutions and organizations, with a specific emphasis on developing regional initiatives in SEE region, stimulating European and Euro-Atlantic integrations and spreading Euro-Atlantic cooperation. Combining a thorough understanding of the SEE background with the expertise on politics, economy and other social spheres, the Center strives to promote regional cooperation and integrations based on common values and interests about free, prosperous and peaceful future. The Center is aimed at catalysing local, regional and global strategies for promoting the economic growth, more efficient activities when it comes to political issues and generating the development in manners that can contribute to the economic and political welfare.
An important aspect and product of the Atlantic Council’s work in this field is 2BS Forum, the leading politico-security forum in the region, which deals with the issues of global, Euro-Atlantic security and security in SEE. The main characteristic of this Forum is the participation of high officials from SEE and wider Trans-Atlantic region, as well as numerous prominent academics and experts in the field of security. The 2BS Forum helps, not only to promote new thinking, but also tactical thinking on reform efforts in SEE, build closer ties between key stakeholders and partners and thus make this region a safer and more prosperous place, able to contribute to global challenges in the future.
