What is driving Putin and what is the “price” that he is ready to pay moving forward with the military action against Ukraine?  As European Union, foreign policy chief Josep Borrell says Europe is going through its most dangerous moment since the Cold War. How imminent is the escalation of conflict into war in Europe?

On another brink of the EU – Western Balkans – unresolved problems have been piling up for years. The resurrection of nationalism, political and social tensions, in part supported by the Russian influence, maintains the constant state of tensions. What parallels can be drawn between the crisis in Ukraine and issues that are spiraling in the Western Balkans? How similar or different is the Russian strategy towards these two spheres of influence? How real is the potential of a spillover effect and what EU, NATO, and the US need to do to prevent escalation?

The event is a part of the project supported by the Balkan Trust for Democracy (of the German Marshall Fund) and USAID and is the fourth out of five Online Talks Series that will be organized to support and enhance discussions regarding peace, security, and stability in the region.
