Vlatko Cvrtila

Prof. Dr. Vlatko Cvrtila completed his Security Studies in 1989, master’s studies in 1992 and doctoral studies in 1999 at the University of Zagreb. He worked as a professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Zagreb from 1999 to 2013. He served as the executive editor of the journal Politička misao (1992-1998), Vice Dean (2004-2005), and Dean of the Department of Political Science (2008-2010) at the University of Zagreb. He has been the Rector of VERN’ University since February 2021.

He served as an advisor for defence to the President of the Republic of Croatia (2005-2008) and as an advisor for national security and defence to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia (2009-2011). He was appointed as a member of the Defence Committee of the Croatian Parliament. His areas of research are security studies and security sector governance. He holds a PhD degree in Security Studies, from the University of Belgrade. He has participated in programs in the United States at the Institute for National Security, and at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
